What is the focus of your doctoral research?
My doctoral research focuses on understanding how matter is distributed across the Universe on the largest scales. Using observations from X-ray space telescopes, we can map the hot gas in the Universe, e.g. within clusters of galaxies. These observations allow us to study where this gas is located and how much of it exists. A key question is how these enormous cosmic structures formed over billions of years and whether their observed properties agree with the predictions of our theoretical models. By comparing observations with simulations, my research helps test our understanding of how the Universe evolved.
How did participating in the conference benefit your research and your career as a young researcher?
The 75th Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting was highly interdisciplinary. While I had the opportunity to meet fellow astronomers, the greatest value came from interacting with young scientists from many different fields. These conversations fostered curiosity, encouraged the exchange of ideas, and inspired me to look beyond the boundaries of my own discipline. As researchers, it is easy to become absorbed in a very specialized area. Discussing science with people from different backgrounds was a refreshing reminder of the broader purpose of research and the importance of collaboration across disciplines.
What was the most memorable impression you took away from the conference?
One of my strongest impressions was seeing how diverse the Nobel Laureates were as people. Some were eager to discuss the details of scientific research, others preferred conversations about the relationship between science and society, and some surprised everyone by showing off party tricks on the dance floor late into the evening. Meeting them in such different settings was a reminder that there is no single path to becoming a great scientist and that curiosity, passion, and personality can take many forms.
